Dreams

"We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off."
                                                                                       -Tyler Durden(Fight Club(1999))

Firstly, thank you all for the comments and those who followed my blog. Secondly, this post has absolutely nothing to do with the dreams you have at night. I won't deal with the dreams, in which you see the rivers of alcohol and mountains of chocolate, nor will I talk about the plot mysteries of 'Inception'. I am going to write about the dreams you have, about the future. A plan, a blueprint of what you think you're going to do.

Whenever you set a goal in your life, you should always make sure it's achievable. Of course, no one will say, " You know what, someday, I'm gonna kill an ant with the planet Venus and then excrete on it's remains," but, you know what I'm saying(I hope).
You should realize the fact that you might not be up for the task. The point here is, facing your shortcomings and the circumstances. I'll give you an example to make my point more comprehensible, I had this friend who was, you know, an awkward teenager and who used to keep telling me that he is going to be an engineer and that too after studying in the best engineering college in the country. The first time, I said, " Good. That's a lot of studying isn't it?" He agreed. His babbling went on increasing day by day, and it was the same thing every time. After a few weeks, I got irritated and said to him, " Yeah, that's nice. What was your percentage this year, again?"
I know, I know, you think I am cruel, but one thing that I can't stand are false promises, especially the ones we make to ourselves. I think you can figure out how brainy he was.
I believe that the purpose of life is the purpose you choose to give it, and if it's unattainable, then there's only disappointment and regret in store for you.
I am aware of the fact that, the first step to living your dream, is to dream of the life you want, but once you do that, you should think it out logically. If it isn't possible, accept that. It just isn't happening. Even if it is, you also have a very complex and unpredictable factor to worry about: shit luck. It is what makes the world go round, so prepare yourself.
One more quote from Fight Club: Let the chips fall where they may.
Don't let that discourage you. "If you will it, dude, it is no dream." - The Big Lebowski.
Phew, that's a lot of movie quotes for one post.
Anyway,I am not saying, that one should not aspire to be great, I am saying that one should recognize one's strengths and weaknesses. Live your life to the full by accepting it the way it is. So, that's it for now and if you want me to share my opinion on something, comment below and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

  1. Its good to be practical but there's another point of view. This is the age when you can dream big, dream the so called "impossible" and believe me there's a very good chance that you might actually achieve it! The friend of yours , who is at this stage not a top performer, is at least aiming high. So instead of telling him that he won't ever achieve it, isn't it better to tell him to try harder.
Somehow Ayan, I feel that you need to be a little more adventurous. Also luck favors the brave.
